         FAQs Colon Hydrotherapy

Q1. Is colon hydrotherapy safe?

A1 Yes, in fact with the new modern state of the art colon hydrotherapy equipment, treatments are much safer than they were before.

Q2. How is colon hydrotherapy different from enema?

A2 An enema reaches the rectum and sometimes up to the lower part of sigmoid colon. But with colon hydrotherapy, the entire length of the colon (the large intestinal tract approximately 5 to 5½ feet in length) is reached. According to learned centenarian Dr. Norman Walker, “One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas.”

Q3. How do I know Colon Hydrotherapy will be useful for me?

A3 Today's diets consist in great part of refined, processed foods, high in saturated fats and low in fiber. Apart from these foods, overeating, ignoring the call to eliminate, stress, allergies, and medications can contribute to poor colon health. The colon contains the largest concentration of bacteria in the body. Waste material allowed to stagnate alters the proportion of friendly bacteria to unfriendly bacteria, disrupting the balance of microorganisms essential to the health of the colon and the body in general. Symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating, or gastrointestinal pain may alert you to colon distress. We believe that Colon Hydrotherapy may be valuable in minimizing the effects of both dietary and environmental stresses and toxins that bombard us on a regular basis and can lead to immune system imbalances. That portion of the immune system residing in the intestine may rejuvenate once toxic waste materials are removed.

Q4. Do the treatments hurt?

A4 No. In fact many people report their colon hydrotherapy sessions as being both refreshing and relaxing.

Q5. How much of the intestines are cleansed during a colon hydrotherapy treatment?

A5 Colon hydrotherapy can cleanse the total length of your colon (large intestine) based on the health status of your colon at the beginning of the session. The small intestine are not specifically involved in a colon hydrotherapy treatment. The small intestine may be cleansed with the help of an oral (herb-based) intestinal cleanser.

Q6. Is bacterial or viral contamination possible from the colon hydrotherapy equipment?

A6 Modern colon hydrotherapy machines utilize pre-sterilized, disposable hoses and speculums. These disposables are used only once during a single therapy session. Properly administered, there is absolutely no danger of contamination.

Q7. How long does a treatment take?

A7 Actual treatment time is about 45 minutes, but you should plan a total session visit of one hour in duration.

Q8. Can a colon hydrotherapy session be taken during the menstrual period?

A8 The time of menstruation is in fact considered a good time to receive a colon hydrotherapy treatment, as your body is already cleansing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment.

Q9. What should I do to prepare myself for a colon hydrotherapy session?

A9 A session of colon hydrotherapy is best taken empty stomach preferably in the morning. Refrain from eating heavy foods the night before. For cleanses done during the course of the day, you need to refrain from eating a few hours before the colonic. Earlier in the day, just have a light meal of soup or salad. Avoidance of coffee and carbonated beverages is also wise before a colonic as they can create excess gas and cramping during the procedure.

While taking a series of treatments, light diet based on vegetables, fruits, fiber and fresh juices is preferable.

Be as relaxed as possible and maintain a positive, cheerful attitude.

Q10. Will I experience any cleansing reactions after the session?

A10 Usually not, but since the cleansing will stir up a lot of old debris and toxins, you might experience some minor nausea or fatigue. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to rest and apply a warm heating pad to the abdomen. If you wish, a mild vegetable broth or peppermint tea is usually soothing at this time. Any discomfort will usually pass within 24 hours.

Q11. Some people say that colonics wash out intestinal flora and valuable nutrients. Is this true?

A11 The reality is that cleansing the large intestine of putrefied fecal matter and toxins increases the good intestinal flora. Good bacteria can only grow in a clean environment which has been washed free of putrefaction and its accompanying harmful bacteria. Nutrient absorption is also considerably better in a clean environment than in a putrefied one. However, to ensure the proper balance of good bacteria, we do recommend supplementing with probiotics while doing colonics. We include them as part of our daily health regimen!

Q12. Will one colonic completely empty the colon?

A12 Almost never. Many of us have a considerable amount of impacted fecal matter in the colon and it takes time and work to remove it. One colonic will remove some of it, but subsequent colonics will remove even more and help to exercise and tonify the colon.
