Colon Hydrotherapy

What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy serves as a mechanical approach to detoxifying the colon, or large intestines. By setting in motion the discharge of any excess and residual load in the bowels, colon hydrotherapy actually helps to purge and re-vitalize the entire body. It will likewise refresh the mind and lighten the emotions. The latter can happen because of the large number of nerve endings and receptors located there. For which reason modern western physiology often refers to the bowels as 'our second brain'.

Many toxins are stored in the colon, for example after the liver has excreted them. Once they are removed (which does not happen always automatically), the body is relieved from that much more of its total toxic load. And the lower the overall toxic load is, the healthier and the body in turn becomes. It can run more smoothly, which is why the patient will feel energized.

More Efficient Than Enemas

In terms of its technique, modern colon hydrotherapy (also known as colonic irrigation) derives from the ancient system of enemas. It has become quite a bit more sophisticated, though, than its precursors. With the help of advanced engineering the enema concept has been developed further, and is now near perfection.

With the result that modern closed system colon hydrotherapy indeed represents the odorless, hygienic and most effective form of colon cleansing in medicine. It is more pleasant to endure than any enema. In addition, it is much more effective. Enemas, no matter how much water is used, only clean the sigmoid and descending colon up to the splenic flexure. They cannot reach further. Colonic irrigation fills and cleans the entire large intestines, including the transverse and ascending colon.

The Actual Application of Colon Hydrotherapy

The purpose of the treatment is easy to define: to cleanse the body of toxins, to remove stubborn and impacted fecal deposits, parasites, mucous, gas, the residues of putrefaction, and to facilitate effective elimination. In order to achieve the purpose, the colon hydrotherapist, with the help of the colon hydrotherapy machine, introduces warm filtered water into the colon at a low pressure so that it may reach the entire length of the colon. Everything is done to make the client feel as comfortable as possible.

Just one Colonic Irrigation treatment can be equivalent to 20 to 30 ordinary bowl movements. Subsequent treatments have an even deeper impact, as they tend to dislodge older, hardened feces from the large intestinal walls – thus helping the body to again digest and metabolize food properly.

The Medical Indications for Colon Hydrotherapy

Medically colon hydrotherapy is indicated for example in cases of: Constipation, Candida, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Gastrointestinal Malabsorption Syndrome, Celiac Disease, Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and others. Even skin conditions improve, such as Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Halitosis, etc. Colon hydrotherapy likewise reduces some of the toxic side effects of chemotherapy and often gives great relief to chemotherapy patients.

Generally speaking colon hydrotherapy is a great support in treating all diseases and pre-disease syndromes, as all diseases are an expression of a toxic overload in the body. Once some of these toxins are removed from the bowel the body is again put in a better position to self-heal.

The Emotional Aspect of Colon Hydrotherapy

However, although based on mechanical principles, colon hydrotherapy at its best should not be administered mechanically, as for most clients it also impacts their emotions - sometimes with dramatic outbursts in its wake. Each Colonic lasts about 45 minutes, although at Healthy Healing we have worked with some of my clients for up to sixty minutes on the treatment table to guide them through moments of resistance or psychological withholding. This is sometimes needed, which is why the therapist or physician administering the treatment needs to be able to respond to individual need. It is a delicate job and requires a great deal of sensitivity.

For me, Shikha perfectly blended the essential elements of a great ‘healer’......She was relaxed, friendly, and an excellent listener, possessing a very open mind, which afforded her an expansive ‘tool-box’ of possible healing solutions, together with a broad-based allopathic training.
